Bent Willow Furniture Workshop

with Bim Willow
Saturday, April 28th, 2012

Bent willow furniture (wicker), an early American craft, was a familiar sight on the front porches of America until the late 1930s, when it was replaced with "modern" factory-built furniture.  Much of the furniture was made and sold by Gypsy travelers, giving it the nickname "Gypsy twig furniture."  Learn the basics of building with natural materials while making a bent willow project of your own choosing - from a plant stand or trellis to a garden bench or garden arbor to an historic loveseat or rocker.

As for a project list upon enrollment (or see here); items not listed may be built in class as well - all ideas and dreams welcomed.  Project will be completed in 90 minutes to five hours, depending on its size.

Students are required to bring hammers (8 oz. and 16 oz.), pruning shears, and work gloves.  A lumited number of loppers and wire cutters will be available to share.  All other materials and supplies are included.

Saturday, April 28
9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for historical bent willow furniture
1:00 - 5:00 p.m. for all other projects
