Drama - Acting Ensemble - Musical Theater

Youth Medication and Special Needs Policy

Participants under the age of 18 who are engaged in The Phipps sponsored or administered activites and who require medication, must have the medication administered by a parent or guardian.

Participants with special needs must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.


Drama Camp
for students entering 3rd and 4th grades

Students will work with instructors to explore acting, creating characters, improvisation and performance techniques. They will use the skills developed, along with their creativity, to bring a story to life. This work will be shared with family and friends on the final day of class.

Five Days

Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to noon

Instructors

Cynthia Hechter has been teaching drama for 20 years. She is the elementary drama teacher with The Blake School in Minneapolis and is a summer instructor at Stages Theatre Company in Hopkins. Hechter’s professional performance credits include both musical and dramatic roles at several Twin Cities’ theater venues and storytelling appearances with The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphony.

Diane Landis has been a director, actress and teacher in the Twin Cities for the past 18 years. She has directed shows for Northern Sign Theatre, Stages Theatre Company and The Phipps Children’s Theater including productions of Pinocchio and Jungle Book. Landis is the upper school drama instructor for The Blake School in Minneapolis.

Acting Ensemble
for students entering 5th and 6th grades

Students will work with instructors on acting techniques, improvisation, character development and performance techniques. The Acting Ensemble will create a performance piece inspired by student ideas and their classroom improvisations. This original piece will be performed for family and friends on the final day of class.

Musical Theater Camp
for students entering grades 7 – 10

An intensive week of training in all types of musical theater taught by some of the premiere artists in the Twin Cities area. Designed for all levels of experience, this camp offers workshops in acting, dance and movement, voice, and auditioning. An original work will be performed for family and friends on the final day of class.

Five Sessions

Monday – Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

July 7 - 11

Fee: $255

Students should bring a bag lunch.

A $50 deposit is required along with the registration form. The tuition balance is due June 9. Enrollment is limited.

Instructors

Mark Rosenwinkel, acting instructor and director, has over 20 years of acting experience, including the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, the Guthrie, Mixed Blood Theatre, and Penumbra.

Diane Landis, acting instructor, has performed with the Children’s Theatre Company, Mixed Blood Theatre, and Theatre Exchange. She has also directed for Stages Theatre Company and The Phipps Children’s Theater.

Betsy Benjamin, vocal instructor, is a theater and commercial actor as well as a vocal/choral faculty member at the MacPhail Center for the Arts in Minneapolis.

Tony Vierling, dance instructor, has been a featured dancer and actor in many international musical productions, including the national tour of A Chorus Line.
